The Munich Data Science Institute is an integrative research center, currently in the ramping up phase that carries out research, teaching and promotion of young talents with an interdisciplinary and cross-faculty focus on the field of data science, and in particular machine learning. It promotes fundamental and applied research, both in Informatics and Mathematics and in the various domains that pursue a Data Science Strategy or apply Data Science methodologies. The Institute operates as a facilitator and disseminator of state-of-the-art Data Science and Machine learning methods and technologies for the whole university and connects and coalesces all data related expertise of TUM providing a collaborative, trans-disciplinary and communal environment. The contract will be initially limited to two years.

Key responsibilities:

• Management, coordination and implementation of different activities around further set-up and extension of the MDSI. Scientific reporting of the Institutes activities
• Strategic and operational support of the Board of Directors and Advisory Board of the Institute
• Strategic and operational support for third-party funding proposals both on a national and international level
• Active development of the internal and external network of stakeholders at the Institute. Support the Institutes Leadership on membership issues/proposals

Requirements:

• A Master University degree in engineering, natural- or computer science. Data science/Machine Learning background and a PhD are desirable
• Experience in science management in an university or research institution
• A reliable, collaborative, creative and with own initiative approach to work
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to manage a broad range of tasks and responsibilities
• Strong written, verbal communication and presentation skills in both English and German with high level of comfort communicating effectively across internal and external organizations and across hierarchies
• Very good user knowledge of MS-Office applications; experience with project management software and CMS are desirable
