Conducting research for a changing society: This is what drives us at Forschungszentrum Jülich. As a member of the Helmholtz Association, we aim to tackle the grand societal challenges of our time and conduct research into the possibilities of a digitized society, a climate-friendly energy system, and a resource-efficient economy. Work together with around 6,400 employees in one of Europe’s biggest research centres and help us to shape change!

The Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine addresses the organization of the human brain at its various spatial and temporal scales. The subinstitute "Structural and Functional Organization of the Brain" (INM-1) is developing a high-resolution 3D model of the human brain that takes into account cytoarchitecture, connectivity, molecular organization, as well as genetic and functional measurements. To cope with the tremendous complexity of the brain and make neuroscientific data publicly accessible, the "Big Data Analytics" group develops Machine Learning algorithms and software components to analyze extremely large amounts of image data on High Performance Computing systems and delivers them to users through cloud-based infrastructures. We are an important partner in the European Commission`s Future and Emerging Technologies Flagship Project "Human Brain Project (HBP)", which aims to provide an innovative, web-accessible research infrastructure for the neurosciences (EBRAINS) and works closely with neuroscientists, data analysts, software architects, and high performance computing experts in different research institutions in Europe. We are also part of Helmholtz AI, a recently established national platform for Artificial Intelligence of the Helmholtz.
