for a three year contract starting the earliest date possible.
The position is part of the EU-funded project „Laser Resonance Chromatography (LRC) of Superheavy Metals“. The project aims at the development and implementation of a novel approach in optical spectroscopy, which combines laser spectroscopy with ion-mobility mass spectrometry. The approach will be first applied on stable elements prior to investigations on superheavy elements at accelerator facilities.
The successful candidate will help in the design and assembly of the LRC apparatus and will develop the experiment control and data acquisition. After the inauguration of setup, the candidate is supposed to perform first laser spectroscopic investigations on stable transition metals and publish the results in peer-reviewed journals.
In addition to the general employment requirements, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in § 56 Hochschulgesetz Rheinland-Pfalz.
• Masters, Diploma or equivalent degree in Physics or Chemistry
• Experience in the field of laser spectroscopy or ion-mobility mass spectrometry
• Ideally background in electronics and vacuum technology
• Good communication skills in English (both verbal and written)
Experience with programming (e.g. C++) and CAD packages (e.g. AutoCAD) will be considered as an added qualification.
The Johannes Gutenberg University is committed to increasing the proportion of women in science and research and therefore encourages women to apply.
