Using data from a large survey of publicly funded German research institutes, we make some observations on the working morale of university professors. We noted that the share of tenured professors who answered the questionnaires very early or very late in the day was considerable. We regard this as evidence that German professors are not as inactive or as lazy as common prejudices seem to indicate.
