The Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine (MDC) is a biomedical research institute of the Helmholtz Association of National Research Centers. It is a dedicated to interdisciplinary research in the areas of Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases, Cancer, and Diseases of the Nervous System. The Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology (BIMSB) is the expanding systems biology program at the MDC, integrating most recent advances in high-throughput, bioinformatics, mathematical, modelling and molecular biology approaches with disease oriented research at the MDC and beyond.
The MDC/BIMSB is seeking a Project Manager with strong scientific background in systems biology to join the team and coordinate the MDC's activities of the EC-funded project CORBEL, which aims to establish an operational framework of shared services for European scientists between existing European Infrastructures of the ESFRI Biological and Medical Research Group (BMS RI), including ISBE (Infrastructure for Systems Biology in Europe, www.isbe.eu). The CORBEL consortium consists of 35 European partners from 11 BMS RIs and will receive a total budget of € 14.8 m. The role of the MDC, as ISBE member, is to support the “Community-driven cross-infrastructure joint research - Biosciences” (work package 4 in CORBEL). WP4 is jointly coordinated by ISBE and Euro-BioImaging and will establish common services, sample handling and data acquisition, annotation, analysis and integration pipelines in the frame of four distinct use cases - from novel model organisms to genotype-phenotype predictions. It will shape interfaces of scientific services in collaboration with pioneer users to establish the framework for transnational interaction and access across infrastructures.
The ISBE WP4 Project Manager will be responsible for work package management, communication with participating infrastructures and users, monitoring of deliverables and EC reporting. The Project Manager will work closely with the ISBE team, under supervision of the participating MDC/BIMSB scientists and BIMSB Management.
The responsibilities are as follows:
- Strategic and day-to-day management of WP4 operation with all involved partners
- Support of service sites of the BMS infrastructures to establish the framework for a common portfolio of shared services; preparing, administering and evaluating user access to the shared services
- Dissemination of the portfolio of shared services to the scientific community and engagement with users
- Collaboration and interaction with all CORBEL work packages
- Communication of processes, outcomes and synergies between CORBEL and ISBE members; contribution to ISBE strategy developments
Qualifications and Experience:
Experience in scientific project management in a competitive research environment is required with proven ability to effectively interact with multiple stakeholders on international and interdisciplinary level. A PhD in life sciences with experience in systems biology and working in a high-paced professional setting is expected. The successful candidate should be able to manage project implementation independently and to perform within a multi-disciplinary team. Effective multi-tasking and the ability to work with tight deadlines are a must. The candidate needs excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to move between the scientific and managerial level. Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory, German would be a plus.
Contract and Salary:
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualification (up to TVöD 13 Bund/Ost). Contracts will be offered for two years; extension is possible and will depend on developments in the project at the time of renewal. The MDC is an equal opportunity employer and supports gender equality.
