We now seek a highly qualified and motivated Scientific project manager (f/m/d) to support our ongoing third-party projects.

The Chair of Biological Imaging (CBI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging (IBMI) at Helmholtz Munich are an integrated, multi-disciplinary research unit. Together they form the cornerstone of a rapidly expanding bioengineering ecosystem in Munich, Germany; including the Research Center TranslaTUM and the Helmholtz Pioneer Campus, which integrate bioengineering with oncology and metabolic disorders, respectively. CBI scientists develop next-generation imaging and sensing methods to measure previously inaccessible properties of living systems, hence, catalyzing breakthroughs in biology, medicine, and the environment. Comprising 11 inter-disciplinary laboratories and scientists from more than 25 countries, CBI offers state-of-the-art infrastructure for innovative research and an ideal environment to accelerate your career.

The Mission:

The CBI science management team provides comprehensive administrative support to our researchers, giving them room to focus their full creative potential on developing the imaging and sensing technology of tomorrow.

The scientific project manager will specifically:

  • Lead project management activities, including financial and personnel allocations and preparation of financial and scientific reports, of intramural projects and projects externally funded by German, European and international agencies (e.g. EU, DFG, BMBF, NIH)
  • Act as the interface between CBI scientists and the central administrations of Helmholtz Munich and TUM, external partners and national and international funding agencies
  • Organize and participate in project meetings and workshops in Munich and abroad
  • Assist with applications for third-party funding from national and international funding agencies
  • Proofread scientific texts aimed at diverse target audiences (e.g. the general public, stakeholders, regulatory bodies)
  • Support CBI operations, public relations, and marketing activities

Your profile:

The successful applicant must have the following:

  • PhD degree in natural sciences, electrical engineering, physics, optics, medical technology, or biomedical computing
  • Experience in scientific management with a focus on research fund administration and finances, especially for EU projects
  • Strong organizational and management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in parallel
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to present interdisciplinary research projects to diverse audiences
  • Business fluent in English and German, both in written and spoken form • Experience with word processing, worksheet, database, data analysis, and graphics software
  • Independent, flexible, and solution-oriented working style
  • Proven capability to work independently and in teams

The successful applicant will initially have a 2-year contract, with the possibility of extension. Salary will commensurate with work experience and seniority (TV-L E 13 according to the public wage agreement of the Free State of Bavaria).
