We now seek a highly qualified and motivated Scientific writer (f/m/d) to streamline our paper writing process and support our scientists of all levels in manuscript preparation.

The Chair of Biological Imaging (CBI) at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Institute of Biological and Medical Imaging (IBMI) at Helmholtz Munich are an integrated, multi-disciplinary research unit. Together they form the cornerstone of a rapidly expanding bioengineering ecosystem in Munich, Germany; including the Research Center TranslaTUM and the Helmholtz Pioneer Campus, which integrate bioengineering with oncology and metabolic disorders, respectively. CBI scientists develop next-generation imaging and sensing methods to measure previously inaccessible properties of living systems, hence, catalyzing breakthroughs in biology, medicine, and the environment. Comprising 11 inter-disciplinary laboratories and scientists from more than 25 countries, CBI offers state-of-the-art infrastructure for innovative research and an ideal environment to accelerate your career.

The Mission:

The CBI science management team provides comprehensive administrative support to our researchers, giving them room to focus their full creative potential on developing the imaging and sensing technology of tomorrow.

The scientific writer will specifically:

  • Lead the manuscript writing workflow and oversee implementation of writing guidelines according to our institute standards
  • Provide hands-on consultation and support to CBI scientists throughout the entire publishing process, from manuscript conception to final publication, including the presentation of data in figures, schemes, and tables
  • Proofread scientific texts aimed at diverse target audiences
  • Document publication activities, compile statistics, and ensure compliance with open access publishing guidelines, in coordination with the central administrations of Helmholtz Munich and TUM, external partners, and national and international funding agencies
  • Support CBI operations, public relations, and marketing activities
  • Assist with applications for third-party funding from national and international funding agencies
  • Support project management activities, including compilation of scientific reports

Your profile:

The successful applicant must have the following:

  • PhD degree in natural sciences, electrical engineering, physics, optics, medical technology, or biomedical computing
  • Extensive experience in independent writing of texts for scientific audiences, including peer-reviewed publications and reviews, proposals for competitive funding, and articles for the general public
  • Excellent ability to analyze and present complex research projects to various audiences
  • Excellent command of English both written and spoken. Fluency in written and spoken German is considered a strong plus
  • Experience with word processing, worksheet, database, data analysis, and graphics software
  • Independent, flexible, and solution-oriented working style and commitment to quickly familiarize with new, interdisciplinary research projects
  • Strong organizational and management skills combined with the ability to motivate and inspire colleagues

The successful applicant will initially have a 2-year contract, with the possibility of extension. Salary will commensurate with work experience and seniority (TV-L E13 according to the public wage agreement of the Free State of Bavaria).
