Student-centred learning and employability are central to tracking activities which a growing number of higher education institutions and national ministries have put in place. Tracking is often undertaken in order to improve the student’s experience and the university services and support mechanisms at a HEI with the view to increase the successful completion rate of university studies but also to ensure that the feedback received from the graduates and their experience on the labour market is then integrated into the university strategy.

It is in this context that, in 2010, the European University Association launched the two-year study project TRACKIT, which is supported by the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union. The TRACKIT project undertook to provide an overview of existing tracking initiatives for students and graduates in 31 European countries, analysing the various methods, drivers and uses applied by higher education institutions in their respective national contexts.

The project is co-organised with the Irish Universities Association/ UCD Geary Institute, Hochschul-Informations-System GmBH (HIS), Lund University, University of the Peloponnese/ Centre for Social and Educational Policy Studies and Aarhus University.

The conference (5-6 June in Copenhagen) will bring together 100-150 participants across Europe who are involved in the design or implementation of student and graduate tracking at national and institutional level, including policy makers, researchers and university leaders. During the conference the preliminary findings of the project will be presented and discussed. The participants will have the opportunity to exchange their experience with tracking and discuss how they can contribute to making informed choices on tracking procedures, improving governance and management, and informing quality assurance structures.
