Project Officer

 

for the Global Young Academy (GYA). The position is based in Berlin, Germany, and available from 1 January 2013 for the duration of one year.

 

Project Outline

The Global Young Academy (GYA) is an independent international science organization with high expectations concerning its members’ academic excellence and commitment, hosted by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities. As the “voice of young scientists around the world” GYA supports young scientists, fosters dialogue between science, society and politics, and aims at narrowing the gap between science in developed and developing countries (more information: www.globalyoungacademy.net). In 2013, GYA is launching a Pre-Study on “The Global State of Young Scientists” with the goal to gather and evaluate the state of knowledge on young researchers around the world related to career paths and prospects, mobility, scientific productivity, gender etc. This information can be used in the future as a roadmap to guide further research. The project includes an international literature, documents, and data review; a survey and interviews with key informants; an international expert workshop in May 2013; and a preliminary report for decision makers.

 

Tasks

The Project Officer is responsible for the study’s coordination and should carry out the following tasks with support of the corresponding GYA Working Group:

1) Scientific, administrative and organisational coordination of the project:

  • Prepare and carry out the literature review including collecting and evaluating all available studies and data
  • Prepare, conduct, and evaluate interviews with key informants
  • Organise the international workshop and other meetings
  • Set up a network of experts
  • Prepare, circulate and evaluate a survey
  • Inform the creation a website by web designers and maintain it
  • Draft the project report
  • Prepare the launch of the report
  • Carry out administrative tasks regarding the project

2) General support of the GYA Executive Office

 

Requirements

  • Academic background in social science research and/or science policy and science studies, ideally with a doctorate or at least as a doctoral student
  • Experiences in international cooperation and intercultural competence
  • Fluent command of English and German
  • Readiness to travel internationally

 

Advantageous

  • Experiences in administering large grants
  • Experiences in organising international scientific events.

 

The payment will be based on E13, Angleichungs-TV Land Berlin, dependent on the applicant’s professional experiences. The project officer will report to the GYA Managing Director.
