The Institute of Molecular Biology is a Centre of Excellence for Life Sciences, which is located on the campus of Johannes Gutenberg University (JGU) in Mainz, Germany. As part of its commitment to training junior researchers, IMB has established and coordinates an International PhD Programme (IPP) which comprises Groups at IMB, JGU, the University Medicine and the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research in Mainz (for details see: www.imb-mainz.de/PhD). We are now seeking a coordinator for this programme.

 

The  successful  applicant  will  be  responsible  for  coordinating  all  activities  of  the programme, including

  • Maintaining the IPP‘s website
  • Coordinating  interactions  with  Group  Leaders  participating  in  the  IPP  as  well  as  with the university’s administration
  • Advertising the IPP and its biannual calls for applications
  • Managing   the   application   and   selection   process,   incl.   communicating   with applicants, organising candidates’ visits and interviews in Mainz, preparing information for the Selection and Steering Committees and coordinating the activities of these committees
  • Coordinating the IPP’s lecture and training courses and its Thesis Advisory Committees
  • Planning and organising annual symposia and retreats for fellows
  • Drafting reports on the IPP’s progress and managing external evaluations

We are looking for a dynamic person who has

  • Experience in managing international PhD programmes, ideally in the biomedical sector and in particular with the tasks outlined above
  • A very good command of English, both written and spoken
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact with scientists at different levels, and experience with working in very international contexts
  • An outgoing personality and is highly motivated, reliable and flexible, along with being able to work independently and constructively within a service-orientated team
  • A degree in the Life Sciences and/or a good understanding of the field would be advantageous

 

Your prospects: We offer a challenging and interesting position in an international institute, remuneration according to your experience and the opportunity of advanced vocational training. The position is initially fixed-term for 2 years, but is extendable. Starting date for the position is 1 February 2013 or later. IMB is an equal opportunity employer.
