Scientific Director

The position is initially for a period of five years with the option for extension, and is conjoined with a University Professorship (Salary Scale W 3 NBesO) in Applied Geophysics

also limited to a period of five years at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH) starting at the earliest date possible. A civil servant status is excluded.

The Leibniz Institute of Applied Geophysics is a member of the renowned Leibniz Association and enjoys an excellent reputation, both nationally and internationally. The Institute is integrated into the GEOZENTRUM Hannover and a number of networks and hence offers a very versatile work environment.

Along with the position of director of LIAG, with currently around 90 staff, the successful applicant will have the tasks to culture scientific development within the institute, to initiate, coordinate and manage scientific research, to maintain and develop national and international scientific contacts and cooperation, and to prepare the Institute for evaluation by the Leibniz Association. In addition, the director will be obliged to teach applied geophysics at the Leibniz Universität Hannover for 28 hours per semester.

Mandatory requirements are a doctoral degree and habilitation or comparable achievements in one of the institute’s main subject areas, experience in the management of scientific working groups with personnel responsibility, experience in teaching applied geophysics, proven and successful application of third-party funding and an outstanding integration in national and international scientific networks for strengthening the interdisciplinary cooperation of LIAG and LUH.

We are looking for candidates with excellent leadership qualities, strong skills in the areas of cooperation, communication and presentation, the capacity to make decisions, and an understanding of equality and diversity issues. Advantageous is experience in non-university research organizations, in particular in the Leibniz Association. Conditions of appointment are in accordance with § 25, Niedersachsen Higher Education Act (NHG).

Part-time employment can be arranged on request.
