Postoctoral Researcher in Global Health Economics

This vacant position will be integrated in the global health research group under the supervision of Dr. Michael Stolpe and cooperate closely with leading medical researchers in the DFG Cluster of Excellence “Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation.”

The global health research group will develop novel economic models of medical decision making for chronic diseases, test and calibrate the models using large data sets and then use the models to develop evidence-based policy advice for national and international decision makers in health policy and healthcare management. Thus, excellent quantitative analytical and statistical as well as communication skills are required.

Working environment

Apart from working closely with group members at the Kiel Institute, the successful candidate will liaise with junior and senior medical researchers within the DFG Cluster of Excellence “Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation.”

Requirements

We are looking for a candidate who meets the following conditions:

  • She/he holds a doctorate degree in economics with a focus on investment theory, health economics and/or decision theory and has an excellent academic record.
  • The position’s primary focus will be on the application of investment models to medical decision making. Thus, knowledge and interest in empirical applications of modern investment theory is required. Experience with the analysis of large health data sets is desirable.
  • The candidate should be interested in empirical research on medical decision making, with a focus on chronic diseases, and should have experience and/or familiarity with quantitative methods used in micro-econometrics and biostatistics. In addition, the candidate should be interested in developing proposals for health policy reform.
  • The working language is English; excellent English skills are therefore required. Some knowledge of German would be useful, but is not essential.
  • The successful candidate should be acquainted with relevant software, such as STATA, R, TreeAge and Matlab.

The position will be based in Kiel and is initially funded for three years, starting in January or February 2020. The salary will be based on the German public sector pay scale at grade EG 14 TV‑L. After successful internal evaluation, there is the option of extension for a further three years. The position is full-time, however part-time employment is possible.
