Your tasks:

In the DFG (German Science Foundation) project REFINE you will be responsible for the independent interpretation of borehole measurement data from the ICDP borehole of Lake Bosumtwi (Ghana), taking into account the findings of the neighbouring disciplines involved. The main focus of the analyses are the physical rock properties, climate signals, dust fluxes and the structural properties of Quaternary sediments. You will organise an international workshop and publish and present the results in English. The scientific work should further lead to a PhD.

Requirements profile:

  • Scientific university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in geophysics, geosciences, geology, geography, physics or comparable
  • Basic knowledge of the Earth's climate system
  • Basic knowledge of sedimentology
  • Basic knowledge of geophysical rock properties
  • Written and spoken English (comparable to level C1 GeR)
  • Willingness to do a doctorate
  • Independent and structured way of working
  • Ability to work interdisciplinary in an international team (communication and teamwork skills)

Ideally, you also meet the following requirements:

  • International experience/stay abroad
  • Experience with programming in R and time series analysis
  • Experience with dust in the Earth's climate system
  • Experience with hosting events
