Your Tasks:

LIAG investigates both structures and processes in the uppermost Earth's crust by deploying complementary geophysical methods and by combining application-oriented and basic research. To conduct our research in the field of “terrestrial gravimetry”, we seek you. Based on your existing knowledge in this field, you will contribute to the two research topics “geohazards” and “groundwater”, by carrying out methodological developments that improve structural investigations and process monitoring. An extension of the methodological approach to other research topics may be required in the future.

LIAG has state-of-the-art equipment and existing data at its disposal for this field of research. We expect you to further develop the method and the research topics by contributing your own ideas, the acquisition of third-party funding as well as an internal and external professional networking. You will present your results at international conferences and publish them. Required qualifications:

  • University Degree (Master or equivalent) in Geophysics, Geodesy, Physics, Geosciences with a focus on Geophysics, or a comparable field of study
  • Doctorate, preferably with a focus on gravimetric research topics

Required experience:

  • Experience in the application and further development of terrestrial gravimetry, ideally for both structural investigation and process monitoring
  • Proof of scientific achievements in this field of research through publications in international, peer-reviewed journals
  • In-depth programming skills (e.g. Python, Matlab, etc.)
  • Enthusiasm for interdisciplinary and international research activities
  • A command of English (comparable Level B2 GER)
  • Willingness to learn the German language
  • Willingness to participate in national and international field campaigns
  • Independent way of working, as well as the ability to work in a team

The following qualifications are advantageous:

  • Knowledge in the relevant geological sub-disciplines (structural geology, geotechnics, hydrogeology)
  • Knowledge in applied geophysical methods for near-surface applications
  • Knowledge in applied geodetic methods
  • Experience in forward modelling and inversion – structures and processes
  • Successful acquisition of third-party funds
  • Management of research projects
  • Interest in teaching activities and promotion of young talents
  • International networking

Place of employment is Hannover. The salary for the position will be according to salary group E13 TV-L (Collective Agreement for public service of the German states), taking into account § 40 No. 5 TV-L (consideration of professional experience).
