Technische Universität München (TUM) is committed to the scientific training of junior researchers in science, engineering and life sciences, medicine and economics. With the TUM Graduate School (TUM-GS), a central scientific institution of TUM, it fosters the international nature of graduate education and promotes the scientific and interdisciplinary qualification of all doctoral candidates to the highest international standards. A dedicated, international team at the Management Office of the TUM-GS organizes, develops and ensures the quality of the graduate program and all services.

Professional science management supports scientific excellence: With its new Science Management Qualification Program (SMQP), the TUM-GS has developed a structured way into the management of modern research and science. As

          Junior Science Manager (m/f)

you will be systematically qualified for specialist and leadership positions in international science management over four years. A certified course program of the Chair for Research and Science Management (Prof. Claudia Peus) including seminars, exchange forums and individual services will assist you both in your professional and personal development. Together with your mentor, you specify your individual goals and get professional and strategic support through regular feedback sessions. By sitting in on different working groups of the TUM-GS, related academic institutions and international partners, you will get to know more about them and their work. After an introductory phase, you will take on the responsibility of holding seminars, teaching courses and colloquia within the TUM-GS. Following an interim evaluation after one and a half years, the second part of the SMQP will allow you to focus your activities toward one of these areas of qualification:

1.Innovative Welcome Services & Counseling for Doctoral Candidates
2.Quality & Process Management within the Doctoral System
3.Science Communication and Marketing

You will develop your area according to international benchmarks and get the opportunity to take on challenging projects and leadership responsibilities in promoting junior researchers. Acquitting yourself well in your tasks and successfully completing the SMQP with a certificate will open great career prospects at the TUM as well as at leading universities and research institutes around the world.

We are looking for people who have international experience, strong analytical, conceptual and communication skills, problem-solving abilities and who are great negotiators. We expect either a first class university degree and some relevant professional teaching and academic experience or a doctorate. We assume a strong command of German and English (good writing skills) as well as resilience and spontaneity. If you are interested in and passionate about the international scientific landscape and ideally have already had responsibilities in the academic or social sector, we look forward to receiving your application!

As of the start of the SMQP on December 1, 2014, we have openings for four positions as Junior Science Managers, which will be filled following a competitive selection process. Successful applicants will initially be given a two year contract, which is remunerated according to TV-L E13. After passing the interim evaluation, the contract will be extended by two more years and, depending on performance, a certificate will be awarded at the end of it.

We look forward to your convincing and complete application in English, including a letter of motivation and specifying a preference for one or two of the above areas of qualification. The mutual collaboration of all at the TUM is based on equal opportunities. For further questions please contact Mrs. Zizheng Zhang at zhang@zv.tum.de and 089.289.10624. Please send your application no later than September 14, 2014 as one PDF file to Dr. Michael Klimke, Managing Director TUM Graduate School, email: zhang@zv.tum.de, and mark it with the Code SMQP14.
