Background and Topics
A variety of institutions with diverse strategic objectives, interests and concerns characterize the German research landscape. Universities and universities of applied sciences both emphasize the unity of research and teaching, for example. However, they have different strategic research goals. Overarching topics often prevail over the research interests of the numerous independent research institutes, which also strongly influences their overall strategic goals.
Due to different funding models provided by federal and state governments and the enhanced focus on project funding the interaction between the institutions and stakeholders has become more competitive and more complex at the same time.
This workshop discusses the main stakeholders in the German academic system, focusing on their main strategic objectives, interests and concerns, governance structures and the complex interactions among them.
Audience International academics and academic management staff of universities, universities of applied sciences and non-university research institutes, who are unfamiliar with the German research infrastructure. The workshop provides essential and solid insights into the German academic system and its specific governance structure. It will be held in English.
