Nominations sought for the Position of Director at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development

The Max Planck Institute for Human Development (Berlin, Germany) invites nominations (including self-nominations) for a tenured director position in one of two research fields:

(1) The digital revolution and its cognitive, social, and affective consequences for      human development and education;
(2) Socio-cultural drivers of educational commitment and achievement.

The Institute currently has four departments and two research groups, and hosts about 330 scholars, scientists, and related staff, including 36 PhD students. The Institute’s research agenda encompasses the study of evolutionary, historical, social, and institutional contexts of human development from infancy to old age. Research is interdisciplinary, with researchers coming from diverse fields of study, such as psychology, history, educational and social sciences, and cognitive neuroscience.

The successful nominee is expected to establish and pursue a unique, innovative, and long-term research program, focusing on one of the two topics outlined above. The Max Planck Institute for Human Development offers outstanding facilities for human behavioral research and cognitive neuroscience, including a 3T MRI scanner, EEG and TMS facilities, and an interdisciplinary research library. The Institute is located in Berlin-Dahlem and offers a welcoming, international, and vibrant atmosphere. The working languages include English.

The Max Planck Society, an equal opportunity employer, is committed to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of recruitment and employment. It aims at increasing the percentage of women among its scientific leadership, particularly at the tenured director level. Therefore, we strongly encourage expressions of interest from and nominations of qualified female scholars and scientists.

Nominations, including self-nominations, should be sent to managingdirector@mpib-berlin.mpg.de. All nominations will be treated in strict confidence. Nominations will inform the deliberations of an independent search committee appointed by the Max Planck Society.

This call will remain open until February 29, 2016.
