The present publication gives the outcomes of and reflections on the review process carried out in March 2008 for the accreditation of six university degree programmes given at the Centro Universitario de la Costa Sur (CUCSUR), in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The application of the evaluation methodology used by AQU (a recognised European QA agency), together with the use of the European standards for quality assurance stemming from the Bologna Process, represents a unique experience and a new development and also offers new ways to open up cooperation between the university systems in Latin America and Europe.
